Protecting The Western Gorilla

    Protecting the western gorilla, the western Gorilla look just like a normal gorilla. It is found in the Dominican republican's located in forests. The western gorilla is currently decreasing in population and is critically endangered. The western gorilla eats mainly stems and vegetation but the western gorilla being unique compared to other gorillas likes to eat termites. The life cycle of gorillas is such as humans they are very simple species. the main reason why the gorilla is very endangered is because of poaching. Many people kill these gorillas and it is causing the soon to be extinction if gorillas continue to die at the rate they are. The number of how many western gorillas are left is unknown yet it is very endangered and is now a rare sight as there are not many left. As stated on the red list the population is critically endangered and there is not a definite population.

    The habitat that the western gorilla lives in is the tropical rain forest. on the planet that this biome is located is central Africa, most of the western gorillas are located at the Dominican republican. the key abotic features that the forest offers is a cool temperature of usually 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit. The forest also offers a bunch of vegetation which is very good for the western gorilla as it is the major thing that the western gorilla eats. It is also very nutrient there so a lot of vegetation usually grows from the forest. some of the primary consumers that are located at the tropical forest are proboscis monkey, fruit bat, hummingbird, lemur ,sloth, and the biggest one being the gorilla itself. Therefore the gorilla doesn't have to worry about too much being one of the top of the food chain. Yet being one of the biggest Primary consumers in the tropical forest the gorilla still faces multiple dangers as it is currently nearing extinction and is critically endangered.

    One of the main threats that the western gorilla faces is poaching. Poaching is illegal killing of animals for the benefit of the supplies that they offer. poaching is also the killing of endangered animals. gorillas are poached for the meat that they supply, gorillas are very large animals so they are a good source of meat and protein so they are hunted a lot. Poaching is not only on gorillas compared to other animals gorillas are extremely endangered from poaching but it is prevalent in rhinos which are in completely different places then compared to gorillas. The reason on why gorillas are becoming more and more endangered is for the fact that they are getting poached there is other reasons some being climate change and environment change but the main reason on to why gorillas are becoming so endangered at the rate they are is because off poaching or the illegal killings of gorillas.

       The role of a keene state person to stop this critical issue and to come up with a solution would be hard to say. to put myself in the role of being poached I would say that this becomes unrealistic so I am going to refer to the second biggest issue which is environmental change. As a Keene resident it is our duty to make sure that we keep the land safe and eliminate as much waste which is causing environmental harm. This means making a difference. To go back to what we could do as a civilian against poaching is limit the amount of supply and demand that people get from killing these animals. some person is buying the meat that people kill the gorillas for and that is disgusting in its own nature so a way that we can start to make a difference is to make it heard.
