The Environmental History of Richard Nixon

    The person that I choose who is important to the environment in Richard Nixon. Richard Nixon was the thirty seventh president of the United State's of America. During his run in office he signed the national environmental policy act and established the environmental protection agency, which was charged with coordinating and enforcing federal environmental policy. During his run he also signed vital acts that benefit the Environment being the clean air act and the clean water act. The clean air act was signed on December thirty first, in 1970 to foster the growth of a strong American economy and industry while improving human health and the environment. During the time of being a president Richard Nixon dedicated the time and resources needed to counteract the environmental damage caused by the previous era. The way that Richard Nixon viewed the environment was he thought is was not in a good condition, which at the time it was not. So Richard Nixon's view was that he had catching up to do to improve the environment and attempt to achieve the goals he promised before going into office. Nixon was arguable the best president to advocate for the environment. The motivation the Nixon used was that he advocated for the environment the true motivation was the lack of care that the era before Richard Nixon therefore he felt that he had to do something about it. This was the start of Richard Nixon's pass of environmental acts that changed the environment for the better.

    The event or policy that Nixon passed was the environmental policy act signed on January 1st 1970. At the time that this was passed it was called the environmental decade. The reason why it was called this was because of the acts the Richard Nixon passed starting with the policy, clean air act, and the clean water act. This made humans connected closer to nature and the environment. The environmental policy has been defined in terms of the problems it addressed, such as controlling pollution, limiting the loss of natural habitats, managing waste such as sewage and litter,and reducing the impact of natural hazards such as flooding. To benefit global environmental change the policy had five key most effective pieces, these being the clean air act, the endangered species act, the Montreal protocol, the clean water act, and reformation plan. The relationship between Richard Nixon and the environmental policy is that he was the president that passed the policy and also signed the acts that the policy had to offer (the ones that I previously listed). The environmental decade they called it was because of the act the Richard Nixon passed, without Richard Nixon's presidency this act and policy might not have been a possibility. He himself allowed Americans the observation of the impacts of the environment. which allowed a stronger connection with the policy and the people.

    The conflicts that Richard Nixon ran through included those of being All of the problems at the current time, such as war and other activities. Nixon didn't have much drawback of the environmental act. But everything does some that the act had included flaws of the act these flaws include, arbitrary standards, politicized enforcement, and protracted litigation. The statute requires federal agencies to assess the potential environmental effects of public works projects and other major government action. Some other drawbacks that the act had was some shortcomings, these include they provided no incentive for going beyond the limits they set. The act also provided limited flexibility on where and how to reduce pollution. these all have drawbacks because at the time nobody realized that it was bad it took some time and reflection of the act that was passed this is when people started to find the flaws of the act. Yet no hate was directed to Richard Nixon himself because by the time that the flaws were brought forward it was pass the time of Nixon.

        How does the act affect people in Keene NH today. Without the environmental policy act we would not have the clean air act, the clean water act, or the environmental species act. These all allow us to live the way that we do today. Breathe the fresh air that we do, drink the clean water that we do and fish the fish that we can. Without the environmental policy we would not have these luxuries and the rate that the US was going in the past we could be living where rives have oil in them and could be on fire. Or there is so much pollution in the air that it would be inhabitable to live in keen NH as we do now. This proves on how important this event was and how much change that Nixon provided.
